Insurance

International Students' Group Medical Insurance

(For international students who are not eligible to join Taiwan National Health Insurance (NHI) system.)

 

If you need to receive medical treatment, please check the remarks at the end of this sheet to make sure that your medical treatment is not excluded from this insurance and follow the procedures below:
  1. Go to a hospital or clinic near you for treatment.

  2. Claim for a certificate of your diagnosis.

  3. Pay the full fee for the treatment and get both the payment receipt and the certificate of diagnosis.

 

The documents you need to bring to OIA consist of the following:
  1. The original receipts of payment

  2. The original certificate of diagnosis

  3. Photocopy of your Post Office passbook cover

  4. Compensation Application Form (Please come to the CLIC office and get the form)

  5. Passport photocopy 

 

Bring all documents listed in point 3 to the CLIC and we will help you deliver them to the insurance company. If your documents are complete and within the coverage policy, the insurance company will transfer the claims payment into your post office account in about 4 weeks.

 

Please note:

 

For the same symptoms, the insurance company covers only one visit per day. The maximum coverage per visit is TWD 1,000, but does NOT include the following:
  1. Hospital or clinic registration fee.

  2. Total amount exceeding the maximum coverage TWD 1,000 per day.

 

 

Insurance Coverage

Outpatient/Clinic:

  1. Physicians and specialists consultations, medical treatment, and surgery

  2. Prescribed medicines and injections

  3. Diagnostic laboratory tests and surgical appliances

Hospitalization:

  1. Physicians' and specialists' consultations, medical treatment, and surgery

  2. Prescribed medicines and injections

  3. Diagnostic laboratory tests and surgical appliances

  4. Basic room and board, including general nursing care

 

 

Policy Coverage:

Insurance covers accidents or sickness occurring in the Taiwan area. Accidents or illnesses that require specialized medical care or that have occurred before the insurance policy was taken out will not be covered.

 

 

Remarks:

This policy does NOT cover medical treatment incurred by the following situation or personal behavior:

  1. Suicidal behavior, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, overdose, any sickness or damage result from illegal behavior and warfare

  2. Complications incurred by vibriosis, pregnancy, miscarriage, or labor

  3. Health exams, optical correction, inoculation, elective cosmetic surgery, dental scaling, dentures, prosthesis, ocular prosthesis

  4. Ambulance, diagnosis statement, the fee for assigning doctors, special nursing, and any costs not relevant to the treatment

  5. Systemic lupus erythematosus, Hemophilia, Hyperhidrosis, AIDS-Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, sexually transmitted disease, congenital disorder, vasectomy, organ transplant, and any disease diagnosed before the insurance policy was taken out

  6. Hospitalized patients with dental therapies, medical care, and rehabilitation

How Should International Students in Taiwan Enroll in National Health Insurance (NHI)?

If you hold an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and have resided in Taiwan for six months, you are eligible to apply for National Health Insurance (NHI). During these six months, you may leave Taiwan only once, and your absence must not exceed 30 days. The total number of days you actually reside in Taiwan must still amount to six months.

Definition of "Residing in Taiwan for Six Months"

You are considered to have resided in Taiwan for six months if either of the following conditions is met:

  1. You have continuously resided in Taiwan for six months.

  2. You have left Taiwan once for no more than 30 days, and your actual period of residence in Taiwan (excluding days spent abroad) totals six months. Required Documents for Application

Important Notes

● Individuals eligible for NHI enrollment must apply promptly. If you fail to enroll upon meeting the qualifications, you will be required to pay retroactive insurance fees for the period during which you were eligible but not enrolled.
